The researchers identified four broad cultural competency domains that the experts used to create successful cross-cultural relationships. Instead, the researchers dug into their lived experiences using cognitive task analysis to uncover the skills they used to meet their most challenging interactions. Their paper, “Culture-general competence: Evidence from a cognitive field study of professionals who work in many cultures,” was published in the International Journal of Intercultural Relations. To address this question, Louise Rasmussen and Winston Sieck of Global Cognition studied professionals with extensive experience working across cultural boundaries.
